The Voices of our Students

Why do students decide to switch from the traditional education system to homeschooling? Let’s listen to their stories.

Traditional and Home Education

Education is one of the pillars on which both social and individual development of every human being are based. However, in the traditional education system, many students face difficulties that significantly hinder their learning and personal growth. Home education has become a popular alternative to the system-based approach.

Changing the Education System
Why do students choose to switch educational systems?

Here’s an answer from our student, Robert:

Robert: I chose the Nest at the end of my third year of high school, to spend my final year here. Even though I was attending a private school, the entire school system was so overwhelming that I felt terrible going to school. I was exhausted by frequent tests, grades, early mornings, and sometimes teachers who weren’t helpful, as well as a sense of wasted time. I was attending English classes six times a week, but the level was much lower. I also couldn’t pursue non-academic things because school took up all my time – like doing more sports or working on my own projects.

At Dziupla, I now have time for those things. I sleep more, and I’ve forgotten all about tests and grades except for the graduation exam. The teachers are supportive, and I can schedule individual consultations, which are very helpful. This system suits me much better. I actually get to create my own day; I’m not limited by school on a daily basis, and tutoring really helps with that. The only thing left is to pass the final exams, which isn’t that hard, and in my case, prepare for the high school graduation exam. So far, I’ve noticed only one issue – I do socialize less with peers. Of course, there are a few others at the Nest, but not many. Sometimes we have online classes, so it’s not always worth coming in person. It’s very individual – for example, if someone is an introvert, it won’t be a problem, but it also depends on others and their plans.

Considering all the benefits, I think it’s a much better solution, even with that one drawback, because I feel so much better. It’s also important to say that it’s a different lifestyle, where a lot more depends on you. That can be hard and overwhelming, but if you have enough determination and discipline, it can be very developmental – like it has been for me, I think.

Problems Students Face in Traditional Education

Many students struggle with relationship issues – bullying, exclusion, or difficulty forming positive connections with peers. These difficult experiences not only affect a student’s sense of safety but also negatively impact their self-esteem. This can lead to long-term emotional and social problems.

Additionally, the traditional education system often forces students to conform to rigid schedules and obligations. As a result, they don’t have space to develop their passions and interests. Students who don’t fit into standardized teaching methods often feel lost or undervalued. Instead of growing their talents and focusing on their strengths, they concentrate on improving the areas where they struggle most. As a result, their full potential remains undeveloped.

More about this is shared by our student Emilia:

Emilia: My main reason for changing my method of learning was quite personal – it was connected to my health. It’s also about the greater comfort of working and being able to grow in areas I’m genuinely interested in. I commuted to school daily by train, and the high school itself unfortunately wasn’t a safe space for me. That’s why I decided to rebuild my self-confidence. Homeschooling was meant to help with time management and to reduce the overwhelming stress I felt just being at school. Of course, that also affects things like concentration, so the change was definitely supposed to contribute to more effective learning. In my opinion, the foundation of everything is a sense of safety – when we feel safe, our minds work more efficiently and allow us to expand our own boundaries in all kinds of areas. And for me, personal growth is the most important, so I chose peace 🙂

The Benefits of Alternative Education

More and more students are seeking schools with a more individual approach, that foster independence and free up time.

Students and parents are beginning to recognize the need for education that is more tailored to individual needs, interests, and learning pace. The traditional school system often doesn’t allow students the freedom to decide when and how they want to learn.

The Nest was created in response to these needs – a place where we provide that space. Students have the time and room for individualized learning and for building healthy habits. But as Robert mentioned, the key is motivation and discipline.
