Classification Exams

Exams in Home Education – What Do They Look Like?

Exams are a standard part of education, whether we study in a traditional school or through home education. In the case of the latter, however, they have a specific character. Classification exams in home education serve to verify whether a student has mastered the material for a given school year.

So what do exams look like in home education?

Do home education exams have to be overly stressful? At The Nest, we aim to make the exam process clear, organized, and as stress-free as possible for students.

Classification Exam

Every home-educated student is required to take classification exams each year at the school where they are officially enrolled. These exams assess whether the student has grasped the material designated for their grade level.

Exam Format

Home education exams usually consist of two parts: written and oral. The format depends on the subject and includes all mandatory subjects from that school year.

Obligation

Classification exams are mandatory, and their results determine whether the student advances to the next grade level.

Three Exam Sessions at the Nest

At the Nest, we meet the needs of students by offering three exam sessions: in December, March, and May. It is up to the student to decide when and in which subject they would like to take an exam. Each exam consists of a written and an oral part.

Setting the Ground Rules

Teachers at the Nest clearly define the scope of material to be covered in the exam, as well as the type of questions — whether they will be open-ended or multiple choice. We don’t want to create unnecessary challenges, so we focus on clarity and support.

  • Scope of material: Students know what to expect.
  • Consultations: Our teachers are available to help with understanding more difficult topics.
  • A helping hand: If we see that a student is struggling, we do everything we can to support them.

Though mandatory, exams in home education don’t have to be stressful. At the Nest, we create a learning-friendly environment and foster relationships that support students at every stage of their educational journey.

Individual Approach and Consultations

At the Nest, teachers approach each student individually. Why? Because aside from inspiratory sessions, which are the only group classes, all other work between student and teacher happens one-on-one. This model allows for:

  • Asking questions,
  • Refining difficult concepts,
  • Building a relationship based on trust,
  • Creating a space for natural conversation, free from fear of ridicule or unnecessary comments often found in traditional schools.

At the Nest, teachers are here 100% for you—whenever you need it.
